The 2008 Mercedes-Benz M-Class receives good scores for its exterior. Car and Driver says, The 2006 M-class is no longer a stubby, high-riding box on wheels. This new version is a much more graceful truck with longer and wider proportions, a flowing roofline, and prominent wheel housings. U.S. News' Rick Newman deemed the 2007 M-Class Hot. The ML is chiseled, sturdy, and just a bit mean-looking. With the 2006 model, overall length increased by 5.9 inches to 188.5 inches, giving the M-Class a vastly sleeker profile than its predecessor, Car and Driver says. In addition, the 2008 model is more aerodynamic than ever before thanks to the exterior redesign. Its drag coefficient, or Cd, measures 0.34. That's closer to the average sedan than the typical slab-sided SUV. The lower the number, the less noise generated as air flows over the vehicle, and the less power required to move the ML at a given speed, says Auto Mall USA.
Interior
The 2008 Mercedes-Benz M-Class gets many good reviews for its five-seat interior, which is spacious, comfortable and high-quality. The New York Times reports that the M-Class' high roof and huge windows make the cabin as comfortable and scenic as many vans. U.S. News' Rick Newman points out that the M-Class interior is great for kids -There are plenty of power outlets for Game Boys or other toys. A rear center console contains twin cupholders and an activity tray, though it's easy to imagine the tray's felt lining covered in kiddie goo. There are rear AC vents to keep kids warm or cool, and four storage pockets in the back for all their gear. As for the look of the interior, Automobile Magazine speaks highly, noting that Every surface is polished or padded to a fare-thee-well, and there isn't a fit or finish flaw in sight.
Wheels & Tires
The M-Class follows the Mercedes tradition of placing two control stalks on the left side of the steering wheel one for wipers and turn signals and the other for cruise control functions. Mercedes obviously thinks this is proper switch placement, yet it's very easy to hit the cruise stalk when you want to turn on a blinker, even after you're familiar with the distinction. Otherwise, the controls are easy to locate, and they work with a soft, satisfying click. Darker interior colors do better than light when it comes to giving the plastic and vinyl panels a Mercedes-grade appearance. The M-Class's door sills sit only 18 inches above the ground. That's low step-in height by SUV standards, but the driver still sits tall above the pavement. The high seats, expansive glass, effective mirrors and fall-away hood combine for great visibility in all directions and a secure, confident feeling at the wheel.
